 -          DEFINITION OF WORD PROCESSING

 Word processing is the act of using computer to create, edit and print documents. Of all computer applications, word processing is the most common. To perform word processing, you need a computer, a special program called then word processor and a printer to make the whole work complete. A word processor enables you to create a document, store it electronically on a disk, display it on a screen, modify it by entering commands and characters from the keyboard and print it on a printer.

-          WORD PROCESSOR
A word processor is a program or computer application that enables you to perform word processing functions. Therefore, a word processor is a software program capable of creating, storing, and printing documents. Unlike the standard typewriter, users using word processors have the ability if creating a document and making changes to it anyday any time without it being noticed, this document can be saved for a later time to be opened on any other computer using the same word processor.

MS Office Suite: MS office suite is the widely used office suite from Microsoft. Ms office suite comes with different application for different function. For example below are applications in Office 2007
·         Microsoft Office Access 2007
·         Microsoft Office Groove 2007
·         Microsoft Office Info Path 2007
·         Microsoft Office OneNote 2007
·         Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
·         Microsoft Office Publisher 2007
·         Microsoft Office Word 2007

Features of standard word processor are:
•  INSERT TEXT: It allows you to insert text anywhere in the document.
• DELETE TEXT: It allows you to erase characters, words, lines, or pages.
• CUT, COPY AND PASTE: It allows you to remove (cut) or duplicate (copy) a section of text from one place in a document and insert (paste) it somewhere else.
• SEARCH AND REPLACE: It allows you to search for a particular word or phrase in your document.
• WORD WRAP: It automatically moves the insertion point to the next line once the current line is full.
• HEADERS, FOOTERS AND PAGES: It allows you to specify customized header (common text that is printed at the top of every page) and footer (common text that is printed at the bottom of every page). The word processor automatically keeps track of page numbers so that the correct number appears on each page.
• SPELL AND GRAMMAR CHECKERS: It allows you to check the spelling of words and grammatical error in sentences.
• FILE MANAGEMENT: Word processor allows you to create, delete, move and search for files.
• WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get): With WYSIWYG, a document appears on the display screen exactly as it will look when printed.


Loading the word document
To open a Microsoft Word application, do the following:
·         Click on the windows Start Button on the task bar.
·         Navigate to All programs
·         Navigate to Microsoft Office folder
·         Click and select Microsoft Word.
