In and Out

1. Aerobics

This is a group of exercises that speeds up your heart rate, spontaneously increase blood flow and boosts ones agility. It improves cardiovascular response because of its high demand for oxygen

2. Chess and Scrabble

Chess and Scrabble are games that improves problem solving skills and productivity

3. Skipping

This is a very good example of aerobic exercise. It involves jumping over a rope spinned by another or you spin yourself. It has interesting variety and it is fun. You could skip with two foots down or one foot down. You could gallop or hop over the rope

4. Race

Another interesting aerobic activity is racing. There are verious forms of race and you could speed up your heart rate by racing with any physical activity. One could race with squatting, sack bag, frog jump, sprint, long race, skipping and lots more for lots of fun

5. Football

Soccer to be precise is an activity loved by many. Its an interesting game and played almost in any place, though not standard. There one interesting form of soccer enjoyed by Nigerians called monkey post. It is not often played by a standard team of 11. It could be played using a smaller post like tyre or a measured spaced stone by foot. It is used to improve accuracy and goal scoring chances. Another variety of football is the one touch also called centre ball. This form of football is played with a default man at the centre trying to reach the ball with one touch from his or her feet. Once this aim is achieved the centre man replaces who so ever causes the demiss. It is quite interesting because it improves passing skills and timing accuracy. It is also aerobic

6. In and Out

In and out as the name implies is a short distant race game and hence could be classified as anaerobic. Participants form circle with the starter at the centre. The aim is for the person at the centre to touch the closest person to him or her after a dash in just 2 or 3 calculated steps. There is also no rule stopping him or her from touching more than on person.

DISLIKED TOPICS

1. Bearing

This topic is mostly disliked by students. Mainly because it involves not only diagrams but drawing or creating of diagrams as well.

2. Simplification of Algebraic Expression

On my number two list is the dreaded algebra. Nothing imparticular is scary about algebra if not that it requires the use of letters or symbols in finding the solution to problems

3. Lowest Common Multiple (LCM)

Lowest Common Multiple, which can also be called least common multiple, is an interesting topic. It is the application of prime factors in finding the smallest common multiple of a set of given numbers. Students often find it complicating at early primary. They also find it comp[licating when the numbers involved are very large, lack common prime factors or as a word problem

4. Ratio

This topic is so interesting because its application in our daily activity. Students find it a lot more interesting when teachers use household experience in the expalnation of the topic. Ratio expresses sharing as a relationship between the quatities distributed among the subjects

LOVED TOPICS

1. Binary Numbers

This topic is one interesting aspect in mathematics that student enjoy studying. Possibly because its use of basic operators such as addition, multiplication and simple division.

2. Linear Angles

Just as the name implies, this aspect of exercise on 'angle' is a piece of cake and quite an entry point for anyone who wants to learn angle. the problems are usually on straigt lines with intercepts, dividing angle 180degree into two or more parts; one might be requested to find a missing value for an angle

3. Angle of Elevation and Depression

Angle of elevation and depression seems to be find its place in the list of disturbing topics because its combination of word problem, angle and logical representation of problems. Most students that have fun solving direct simplification may not find problems on angle of elevation and depression interesting.

4. Plane Shapes

I had a discussion with a student and he stated that one of his monster-topic is plane shapes. He narrated that his problem areas are definition of terms (e.g. perimetre) and that he is also distracted by the diagram

Have You Ever Ever Used The Computer Before? (Yr 10)

Hehehe! You must be wondering "What kind of question is this?" Of course your answer is YES! A very big yes for that matter. If not you won't be on my blog.

On a second thought, I'm wondering what you used it for - maybe play games, type, research for your homework, watch movies, play music, study, and lots more. There are absolutely lots of exciting things you could do with the computer. In summary you can either use it PRODUCTIVELY or DESTRUCTIVELY.

OK, we can talk more about all these some other time. After all to some of you I'm just blabbing. 😁

Funny enough a fuel pump and a simple calculator are examples of computer. The computer is meant for everybody. I mean everybody.

But I wonder why some people will sit in front of a computer and they won't be able to use it. Some can use it but not efficiently. Its like Mr. Sabi wonders a lot. Never mind, if you trek the way I trek you will wonder too.

Do you know there is a more powerful computer in you called the BRAIN? Some of us our brain behaves as though we are trying to stop a car from a wrong lane, haha! I think is high time we activate it.

This is the point:

  1. How many letters of the alphabet does the word vision has? a) 1 b) 3 c) 5 d) 6
  2. From the word observant form a word synonymous with the word slave. a) retainer b) attendant c) servant d) handmaid

a) It doesn't store its files as workbook.

b) It is a DBMS application software from Microsoft. c) It sure uses pages to organise its files.

d) Its objects include tables, forms, query, report, macros and modules.

Computer In Everyday Life (Yr 7)

Computer is good for everyday life. However, there are setbacks on this.

Those who are Abusive - that is they use the computer in an offensive or irritating manner. Abusively, some use computers at the wrong time and some use it to commit various crimes.

Those who are addicts - can't stay away from computer devices because they spend abnormal time on movies, social media (Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, etc) and games.

Those who are lazy - these category of persons have deliberately replaced their brains, hands, legs, eyes and every active part of their bodies with the computer. Funny though, how some will rather depend on and convey wrong information without doing concrete research and study before sharing information. Computer in our everyday life will be jeopardy if it totally takes the place of the BRAIN (reasoning) and the BOOK (reading).

Fill in the following statements:

  1. _______ is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the ability to storeretrieve, and process data. a) calculator b) computer c) multimeter d) laminator
  2. Hardware is any part of your computer that has a _______ structure, such as the keyboard or mouse. a) physical b) combined c) network d) hard
  3. Software is any set of ______ that tells the hardware what to do and how to do it. a) persons b) analyst c) instruction d) engineers
  4. ______ computers are designed to be placed on a desk, and they're typically made up of a few different parts, including the computer casemonitorkeyboard, and mouse. a) desktop b) mainframe c) super d) serva
  5. Laptops are ________ computers that are more portable than desktops, allowing you to use them almost anywhere. a) solar-powered b) mechanically-powered c) lap-powered d) battery-powered
  6. ________ are handheld computers that are even more portable than laptops. Instead of a keyboard and mouse, they use a ________ for typing and navigation. a) desktops, touch-sensitive screen b) cameras, a set of physical rough keys c) servers, a set of physical rough keys d) tablets, touch-sensitive screen

What Do You Think About Data Representation? (Yr 8)

Yeah! I asked my son same question. Like - What is data representation? After thinking for a while, wanna know what he said to me? He simply answered "CARD". I didn't even hesitate to tell him what I expected. That's, data representation is how computer stores data. Though not explicit enough, but for a 4 year old child, I think it's good enough.

These few fill-in-the-gap exercise will give an introductory definition of data representation:

  1. A _____ device stores all data; audio, text, images and more as numbers. a) solar b) electronic c) digital d) analogue
  2. Data _______ is about understanding how each type of data is processed, stored and displayed within a device, and what impacts this has on how types of data are used. a) cycle b) representation c) file d) integration
The good part is that he is not all that wrong because C stands for computable, A stands for addressable, R stands for retrievable and D stands for digital. So, this is my take on my son's definition of data representation:
Data representation is a computable, addressable, retrievable and digital format for writing data.
